 Nothing About Us, Without Us: Georgia has been the gold standard in providing peer support for many years, and in order to remain so -- It's our mission to cultivate an inclusive workplace where individuals regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, able/non-able-bodied can advance at all levels in the organization. We actively seek to amplify the voices of marginalized communities, ensuring that their experiences are heard, valued and integrated into our decision-making processes.  

About the A

The "A" in a DEIA (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility) committee represents the crucial element of accessibility, which ensures that all individuals, regardless of their abilities or circumstances, can participate fully in every aspect of an organization. By prioritizing accessibility, the committee not only fosters an inclusive environment but also amplifies diverse perspectives that enrich decision-making and innovation. This commitment to removing barriers—be they physical, technological, or systemic—demonstrates an organization’s dedication to equity and respect for all voices, ultimately leading to a more vibrant, engaged community where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

October 1-31: National Disability Employment Awareness Month (U.S.)

A month-long observance to raise awareness about disability employment issues and celebrate the contributions of workers with disabilities.

 

October 10: World Mental Health Day

A global event aimed at raising awareness of mental health issues and promoting mental well-being, emphasizing the importance of inclusive support systems.

 

October 11: International Day of the Girl

Recognizing the rights of girls and highlighting the unique challenges they face, this day promotes gender equity and empowerment.

 

October 15: Global Handwashing Day

While primarily focused on health, this day also promotes inclusivity by emphasizing the importance of hygiene practices for all, especially in underserved communities.

 

October 16: World Food Day

This event addresses issues of food security and equity, highlighting the need for access to nutritious food for all communities.

 

October 17: International Day for the Eradication of Poverty

This day focuses on the need for a global commitment to eradicate poverty, emphasizing social justice and equity for marginalized populations.

 

October 20: National Coming Out Day (U.S.)

An annual LGBTQ+ awareness day that encourages individuals to come out as a means of fostering acceptance and understanding.

 

October 24: United Nations Day

Celebrating the founding of the United Nations, this day highlights global cooperation for human rights, peace, and sustainable development, with a focus on inclusivity.

 

October 31: Halloween/World Cities Day

While Halloween is a cultural celebration, World Cities Day focuses on fostering inclusive urban environments that prioritize accessibility for all.
